VOLUNTEERING ROCKS!

Are you looking to have fun on your weekend while helping your community?  Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County has just the thing for you.  Here is a list of possible activities:

-Construction Volunteer  :  Habitat for Humanity will begin building two duplexes in Bayfield, CO in June of 2008!  We would LOVE for you to come out and help us build these homes for families in our community.Construction experience is not required but if you have it, that is great too!  Most volunteer building days take place on Saturday and we can always use the help of individuals or groups.  If you are interested, please call Jen at 970.382.2215.  

-Lunch provider:   Do you love to cook?  Is your business extra generous?  We are looking for parties interested in providing lunch for our hungry and hard working volunteers on Saturday work days.  Please call Jen at 970.382.2215 if you are interested.  

-Can smashing fun!:  We here at Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County are working to expand our Cans for Habitat recycling program. We are growing fast and expect to double our collection of aluminum cans this year from last year’s 4,758 pounds! This has generated several needs. 1) volunteers to pick up cans from businesses from one of the many established routes, 2) the necessity for a large container in which folks can place their cans and, 3) a location to place the large container (hopefully in a centralized area). We are also currently conducting a search for a Cans for Habitat Program Coordinator which is a volunteer position.  Additionally, if you would like to have a recycling bin at your place of business or have a passion for recycling and would like to help in other ways, CALL US!  We need and welcome your help. The Cans for Habitat recycling program not only saves precious aluminum from going into a land fill, but the monies collected go directly to help with construction costs of Habitat homes here in La Plata County. -Art Gallery:  We are looking for a person who loves art, artists, and Habitat for Humanity's mission of erradicating poverty housing to take over our Habitat Home Supply Art Gallery.  Interested persons should contact Nadine at 970.382.9735 or [ email ]

-Store Volunteer:  If you have knowledge in building trades, appliances, or furniture, or if you just want to support Habitat for Humanity and affordable housing, we need your assistance.  The tasks vary and can be tailored to fit the capabilities and requests of the volunteers.  We have something to do for everyone!  Possible activities include: running the cash register, cleaning and pricing donations, maintaining the store, helping customers, unloading donations, and repair work.  If you are interested in filling out a store volunteer application or have any questions please contact June or Ross at 970.382.9931
