Habitat for Humanity of La Plata County

Habitat for Humanity's Women Build program promotes the involvement of women in the construction of Habitat houses. Women-built projects provide an opportunity for women to learn construction in a supportive environment. Women Build works through affiliates to nurture, recruit and train women to build and maintain simple, decent, healthy and affordable homes.
Women Crews Were All Over It... The House That Is!

This season Women Build workdays were held August 25th, October 20th, and November 17th.  As you can see when you visit the photo gallery, everyone worked hard  and accomplished much!  Crew leader Cathy Hartney encouraged  volunteers to step beyond their normal comfort zone by working on construction tasks that they might not have ever thought to try otherwise.  Volunteer Sandy Cooper came not knowing how to read a tape measure or run a saw; by the end of the day we could have crowned her queen of both!  The "roof crew" proved to themselves that they could excell at new (and potentially dangerous) tasks while throughout the day there was a real spirit of teamwork and cooperation, assisting one another in working through the various construction tasks and sharing in the fullfillment of  a job well done.

We can't thank these ladies enough for their willingness to commit themselves to working on construction, stepping outside of the normal comfort zone to help families who need a home in this community.  This year, Women Build days include July 19th, August 16th, and September 20th. If you are interested in participating on these days, please contact Jen at 970.382.2215. Women Build Rocks!

"Of all the adventureous things I have done, this is one I am most proud of."
Mary "Jeff" Karraker (former Park Ranger, 70 yrs.)

Women crews have nearly built 1,000 Habitat houses around the world. Each year 150 or more homes are added as affiliates, donors and sponsors discover the impact of women volunteers and their resources.
